Hey everybody! Steven Curtis here…wanted to share something new with ya! About a year a half ago I started writing songs and working on a new “project”.
I feel like all the songs I’ve written over the years are “worship songs” in the sense that they’re written to honor and glorify God, His word and His promises, and to honor Him with the gifts He’s given me…even if it’s a song like Cinderella or I Will Be Here to encourage us to love the people He’s put in our lives as an act of worship, or songs like The Great Adventure, Dive, Love Take Me Over or Glorious Unfolding that are written out of my own experience of God’s faithfulness, love and goodness on the journey and to remind us of the truth of His word.
…So, with all that said, this new project is the first ever that I’ve written as a “corporate worship experience” with the hope and desire being to create songs that you, my brothers and sisters in “The Body” (which is one of the songs on the project) might sing with me…proclamations of Truth that we can declare together. These songs have come out of my own journey, particularly of the last 7 years of learning the “life-giving power” of hearing my own voice and the voice of other believers around me declare what is most true and most real…what God says is true!…even when pain, doubt, grief, confusion, etc… are very real as well.
There’s an incredible power in agreeing…agreeing with each other, and especially agreeing with God. In Matthew 18:19 Jesus tells us about the powerful things that can happen when two of us agree on something..and then in Job 22:21 these powerful words are found: “Agree with God, and be at peace”. What an incredible truth! There is a profound peace that we have access to when we simply agree with what God has already declared to be true in His word. And there is great power and freedom in saying, “God, You are God and I’m not…You have the first and the last word…I believe what You say is true, whether my circumstances and emotions line up with it at the moment or not, I choose to believe what You say is true, and I agree with You!
This idea is what inspired this first song I’ve “released” from my new project which I believe we’re going to call “Worship And Believe”.
The song is called “AMEN” and it’s a song that I wrote (with Gareth Gilkeson and Chris Llewellyn of the great band “Rend Collective”!) that essentially declares what God has said about who we are to Him and what He has done for us, and then answers all of it with the only thing left for us to say…”yes…we agree…AMEN!”
I wanted to share a live video I did of my band of me singing and “leading” this song at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, TX.
This is the first single from the new project so if you like it I sure would appreciate it if you would share it and help me spread the word. And most importantly, I hope it will encourage you to sing along and give us a chance to agree together with what God has said,
“we are loved”
“we belong to Him,
“His grace is enough,
we’ve been bought by his blood”
(and so much more…)
and all that’s left for us to say is simply this:
AMEN!
So here ya go!…Can’t wait to share more about this project and more songs in the days ahead!
blessings,
scc

answered prayer, I am huge fan, I have followed the growth of your music, life struggle and hairstyle timeline.. I’ve been praying to lead your songs to the body however every time I practice it, it does not connect to me in a congregational context. The closest I got was “With One Voice”, however it still felt like a special number (own opinion). I love the simple 4 chord feel on this “Amen”. The first/second person perspective of the verses are full of texture of things I want to declare to our Almighty God. The big explosion on the chorus is just a good release. And then build on the bridge section, I can just sit/be still and take my time on it. Keep it coming… Praise the lord for your life.
Steven, I love this new song! Wow, it’s fantastic. I can’t wait to hear more from this project. I have followed your music for many years and have learned many of your songs on guitar. Thanks for being such an inspiration and for giving us guitar players so many great songs to learn!
Steven, thank you so much for the encouragement and truth in your song “Amen”. I heard it on the radio the other day and immediately looked it up. I knew I recognized the voice but couldn’t place it and I was pleasantly surprised to realize it was you! I’ve listened to your work for years and I’m thankful to hear that you want to share the importance of agreeing with God’s word.
Over the last couple of years I have learned about our authority and power as believers. By coming into agreement with what is already true in the spiritual world, in declaration and acting on our faith, we bring that into reality in the natural. And our circumstances change. I already knew God was with us in the bad times but I didn’t realize He had already provided us what we need to make it be “on earth as it is in heaven.” And all that I can say to that is “amen”!
My most favorite song that you sang at Central Church of the Nazarene in Flint MI. Powerful!
this song is amazing.. prayers for your continued journey in bringing more songs like this to glorify his name! Thank you!!
